Welcome to this project blog

Welcome to the Lincoln Academy Project blog.  This blog will be open to NOC and OSU tutors.  I believe that this will be an amazing experience, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.  Use this space to post your experiences throughout the week and to post questions that you might have for our OSU tutors!

Since I am not a frequent blogger, I thought I would give this a try with a different account. Then, I can help my students.

I'm also not a blogger Mrs. Davis, but I hope I'm doing this right. Our first class was a little overwhelming, mainly because I don't know what to expect. Aside from the unexpected, I am looking forward to helping these students. I expect to learn about myself in the process of tutoring.I was once in the same position as the students, and have had some great professors teach me to write better.

I have never used a blog, but I imagine that it's like facebook. The class was very good, but I feel a little nervous about the project. I love to help people, but I'm afraid that I won't be a good tutor. Hopefully after the next class I will feel more confident.

Tutoring. I've always thought of this aspect of learning as the top. The top of the line-up in a baseball game where you need someone to give you a hit so they can get on base. This concept was playing in my head most of the time we were in class. Helping others in this systematic way seems very interesting and I am very lucky to be involved in this great line-up of tutors/teaching machines! I have high hopes for this project. The powerpoint was very insightful and fluid with its information.

I have never used a blog before, like the others above, but it seems to be fairly simple. I was very nervous to go to Lincoln Academy, before class on Tuesday, and am very glad the power point was shown to us. I had no idea how to even begin a tutoring session, but got a lot of helpful information to help me structure how I am going to tutor the student I am assigned to. Even though, I am a little nervous about tutoring at Lincoln Academy, I am also very excited and think it will be a really good learning experience for me. I am glad we are meeting with the tutors again tomorrow. They were a huge help on Tuesday, and I am sure they will be again tomorrow. I am looking forward to class!

The OSU tutors did a great job in their mock tutoring sessions, and presenting the power point. The class was overwhelming, mostly because I'm worried about being as good as tutor as I need to be. I think it would be great to maybe have a paper copy or access to viewing that power point if possible. I would love to look at it at least one more time before we start our sessions at Lincoln Academy. I'm very nervous but also excited to help the young students.

Scripturejunkie is Kristin Link, sorry, that is my email address name, I'm not sure why it posted that. I still don't know how to work this.

Richard S. OSU "Tutor-Dude"

Based on what I observed and heard, I must say that I was truly impressed by the enthusiasm you shared (which is also reflected in your posts "here"), and this will serve you well as you "pay it forward" by going to help younger folks become better writers.

The thoughts you express of anxiety and apprehension are absolutely normal (I think this clearly is a sign of your caring about the project upon which you are about to embark). My advice: Engage in dialogue, be a good listener (and "hear" what they are saying to you) and have fun.

I look forward to Thursday's time together!!

Best regards,

Richard

The writing center tutors were very helpful on Tuesday, especially in their mock tutor sessions. I am excited and also nervous about this project.

I'm not much of a blogger, so I hope this posts correctly. I am excited about getting this project underway. I can't wait to help other young writers cultivate thier interests.

P.S. Since we have potentially icy weather coming in, what do we do if Lincoln is closed on Tuesday?

Thank you to all the tutors who have helped me prepare for this exciting adventure. I truly enjoyed the mock sessions Thursday. I was nervous, but by the end, I felt comfortable and more confident. I am eagerly anticipating Tuesday. I hope the weather is not as bad as the weathermen say it will be...

Thursdays mock tutoring sessions with the OSU tutors was exactly what I needed to feel a little more comfortable, and prepared for Tuesday.

Our last class meeting where we got grouped with a tutor was great. I'am glad to know that I'm not alone with being nervous. My assigned tutor was awesome she really helped me feel at ease and was very personable. She also gave me her contact information so I could refer to her with any questions. The next time we meet it will be at Lincoln Academy!! I hope the students learn to appreciate the opportunity they have been given. They will as well allow me to grow as a writer and individual. Regardless of how this goes I feel something positive will come out of the tutoring experience. I have been so indecisive about my educational direction;perhaps this will help me choose my path in life. Besides I have had some great teachers to inspire me to take the educational path instead.

It was absolutely a pleasure to work with all of you, and I look forward to our meeting later in the semester. Just as Richard said, it is completely normal to feel nervous and excited about tutoring. I always do. However, all of you are prepared, and I could not think of a better class to send to Lincoln Academy. Good luck, and please feel free to email any of us.
